Blog Reader and 5 Blogs to Follow
The 5 blogs that I chose to follow and read articles from are:
1. AASL Blog - This blog is updated once a week and has good articles about the ongoing trends and news in school librarianship. The most recent article by Becca Munson was interesting as it was about the vocabulary used by school librarians and I wouldn't have known over half of the words unless I was in this program. Lingo is important especially when trying to explain what the librarian's job entails.
2. Educator's Technology- This blog is incredible and so helpful in the world of educational technology as it is divided into lots of sub categories at the top such as tools, apps, teacher resources and more. The main articles are found at the top but then there teacher resources as one of the main categories as well as kid resources. This is one that I bookmarked to come back to for future reading when I need a fun idea on how to incorporate technology.
3. Lisa Nielsen Innovative Educator- This blog has been focusing on AI recently which is a hot topic that we as librarians and educators need to figure out as kids will be using it more and more to find ways to generate information. I like her thoughts on how AI doesn't do a good job on citing sources and also her reviews on how the different AI's stack up.
4. School Librarian in Action- I found this blog to be something that I wouldn't normally read or follow but because I don't have much experience with different viewpoints from people I decided to scroll through Zarah Gagatiga's blog and her perspective as someone in the Philippines is an interesting source to read to see what her thoughts are about our profession.
5. The YALSA Blog- YALSA stands for Young Adult Library Services Association and considering that most school librarian's deal with young adults I decided to see what I could find. A lot of the more recent articles deal with their governance and electing a board but I found their archive and the app of the week archive to be very informative and helpful as it is a great spot to have many apps collected in one spot. When you click on an app, it brings up the blog post about it so you can learn more which I found Dimensions Sonic Adventure to be intriguing as well as Chirp which is an app for sending note but it does it through a distinct noise.

The fact that you're exploring perspectives from different parts of the world, like Zarah Gagatiga's blog from the Philippines, shows a commendable curiosity to expand your understanding.
ReplyDeleteMatthew,
ReplyDeleteYALSA is the best when it comes to YA lit. I've found my last five personal reads on that blog alone. The AASL blog has also been just as helpful as you mentioned. Immersing ourselves in the language of our profession will only help us grow and be better able to advocate for ourselves and our programs. Thanks for sharing your info!

Matt,
ReplyDeleteIt is frustrating when blogs aren't updated so I feel your pain on that, but I also know it is difficult to handle multiple tasks. Hopefully, I will update the library site regularly when I become a librarian. I also chose Feedly because it was overall the best option. Lingo is important; just like we teach our students vocabulary, we need to be on top of various terms by knowing the definitions and usage. Most of the blogs I chose were in Tumblr so I liked exploring a few that you pointed out. I have seen and referred to AASL, YALSA, and School Library in Action from time to time so it it great that you included those! Thanks.
Krystal
Matthew,
ReplyDeleteI find myself resonating with the your sentiments about the importance of up-to-date and relevant content on blogs. The frustration of stumbling upon an interesting blog only to realize it hasn't been updated in years is something I can relate to. It's clear that you have found a solution to this problem by using Feedly, which efficiently curates and displays recently updated blogs.
I appreciate your mention of the user-friendly design of Feedly, making it easy to access blogs across different devices. As someone who spends a significant amount of time on mobile devices, I understand the value of a top-notch mobile app experience, and it's great to see that Feedly provides that.
Thank you,
Deborah
